Rare 19th century religious silhouette painting on metal sheet of putti holding a wreath Lourdes
€ 550
Second half 19th century France
A rare religious 'silhouette' oil painting on metal sheet wall hanging depicting two angels/putti holding a banner or flower wreath that reads AMSR in gilded letters: Ave Maria Salve Regina and underneath: "je suis l'immaculée Conception".
On the 25 of march 1858 in Lourdes, the day of the 16th apparition Bernadette asked 'The Lady' after her name.
The Lady responded in patois, which translated as: "Je suis l'immaculée Conception'.
This rare tribute to our Lady might have been made in honor of the miracle of Lourdes.
It is in fair but used condition, some wear to the polychrome, some dirt, two old restorations on the putto on the right side and a little hole underneath the writing.
