Late XIX century, France or England.
Two interesting oak carved book ends, making a near pair, depicting the head of a greyhound (Whippet) and the head of a dog with a collar on a shield. Beautifully carved and very realistic. They obviously belong together but are not perfectly identical.
In good condition, the ear of the Whippet has an old restoration.
